Room 2 today completed a poster about being Waterwise as part of a Tupperware competition. We now have our fingers crossed that we might win water bottles for the whole school. Here are the photos that we have sent in. Thanks to Diane Burton for telling us about the competition and to Mrs Hastings for pulling it all together today! :-)

Confident, active contributors
We are working together in our table groups to show our learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. While we are doing this, we are also learning to be confident, active contributors because we need to share, discuss and negotiate how to work together to collaborate on our large life cycle. These are some audio files of how the children are beginning to talk through the problems and work out ways to be successful learners in groups.

Discovery Time
Today we began Discovery Time. This is time where the children are able to choose from a variety of activities put out in Rooms 1, 2 as well as the outside space and our shared space between the classrooms. We have a focus which is 'being respectful to others'. This focus will change and will be matching our school values. We are developing some specific skills in the children of greeting others, introducing ourselves, asking to be included in activities, and using our quiet voices to show respect to other learners. There is a poster up in our classroom that shows the rubric for our learning in this time.
A key component of the programme is reflection time. In this time we discuss our learning using some reflection prompts and also finding out who was chosen as the Discovery Time stars. The children that receive the badge stand up in front of everybody and explain what they did to receive the badge. The children from both rooms did really well today but unfortunately nobody from Room 2 was chosen as the Discovery Time stars this week. We are going to try really hard to be caught showing respect next week!
I have attached some photos of the children from Room 2 to show some of the activities we chose to participate in today. This also includes our writing time at the end where we work by ourselves to say what we liked about Discovery Time or what we learnt during Discovery Time.

Learning to use the ukelele
At music today we learnt how to play the ukelele. We learnt how to make the c chord. We used this chord to sing "3 blind mice". Jess and Mrs Henley took photos for our blog today. Thanks Mrs Henley! We think Jess did a great job of fitting almost everyone in the picture. Well done Jess. What a great photographer.

Pens writing group
Today at writing time, the pens group were learning to use the structure of writing a recount. They had to include an opening sentence, time connectives, feelings and a closing sentence. There was a lot to remember and they all did a great job. We chose Evie's story to be read out for our blog today because she worked hard to include a closing sentence and it was an interesting story for her audience. Next time, she will need to try and include some time connectives and then it will be an AWESOME recount. Well done Evie!

Music Today
Today at music we played the Butterfly game. You have to duck down and someone will come and tickle your back. You stand up and you can go and tickle someone else's back. Butterflies don't run, so we are not allowed to run. Mrs Henley tells everyone to find a branch once everyone is up fluttering like a butterfly. You have some butterfly tea and then find a leaf to go back to lay another egg and go to sleep.
We also learnt how to make rhythms. Rhythms are when you make a song. We used different kinds of instruments. We used castanets, symbols, lollypop drums and maracas.

Question Marks Reading
Today at reading time, the Question Marks group read a story called "Father Bear goes fishing". We watched a video of the bears catching the salmon because we didn't know how bears caught fish. We knew that they didn't use a fishing rod!

Valuing Learning
Today we have been talking about ways that we can show that we value learning. Henry received a certificate for showing this at our school assembly. We think that we need to use quite inside voices, stay focussed on our learning and make sure that we get our activities finished on time.
Miss Browne was very proud of us at assembly today. We showed respect to all the people who presented at assembly :-)

Mihi
We have all been learning our Mihi. A Mihi introduces ourselves, where we are from and our families. We are still learning more of this but Jackson has shared the part of the mihi that he already knows.
