Friday news at the end of Term 3

Emma is going to the movies and she is going to have lollies, popcorn and fizzy drink. She is going to watch the smurfs 2.

Tomorrow Emma is going to Evie's church to Rainbow Promises.

Last night Jasmine went to her nanas house and she got a top with a cat on it. She also got some lollies that were different.  There was a chewy one and it was her first favourite one.

Elsie got a basket for her birthday and it is for pets to go in but it's not for real pets because it is too small.

Last night Cyrus watched Smurfs 2. She told us a little bit about what happened in the movie.  She also showed us a book that she is making.

Oliver made a rabbit. He stuck the sticks on.

This morning tone and her sister had a lolly in her dads car. He got them from the people at his work.

Yesterday Aileen got a tattoo! She told us what it looked like.  She also got us a surprise for this afternoon.  It might be something that we like doing every single day.  She wrote a sticky toe that tells room 2 to have a nice holiday.

Misha told us that yesterday after school she walked home with her sister and then Zoe's dad came to pick her up and Misha showed her mum the things that she had done.  We then went to the supermarket and she got to have an ice cream on the way back.  She had dinner with Poppa and then she went to bed.

Jackson told us that in the holidays he is going to have Benjamin come to his house and they are going to Pirate mini golf and they might get sushi if his mum lets him.

Middle distance races

Yesterday the whole school did the middle distance races. First we lined up on the field in our age groups.  Some of us were in the five year old girls, some were in the five year old boys and some of us were in the six year old girls and Jackson was the only boy from room 2 in the six year old boys.  Next we had to listen to the teachers so we could find out what we were doing in the races.  Finally it was time to race! it was the most exciting part.  We heard Mrs Wall clap the clappers and we were off racing! Everyone in our class had to go around the field one time.  We cheered for all the other children.  It was a long afternoon for our school. We are looking forward to doing the middle distance races again next year.

Authors in Room 2

Writing

After Discovery Time we do independent writing about what we learnt during Discovery Time. Miss Browne put the extra challenge today to see who could write all the different parts of a recount today and those who worked hard to improve their writing would have it put on the blog. We had so many to choose from but we are super proud of these people:

Misha
Today it was Discovery Time. I put up my name on my picture. I was happy at Discovery Time. Then I went to another activity. After it was tidy time. It was so fun. Next week it is going to be Discovery Time.

Cyrus
I learnt how to make a head and a t-shirt and a skirt and my body and first I got a piece of paper and then I went to Room 2 to cut a man and it was coloured paper and when I went to Room 2 the cardboard was hard to cut but it was fun.

Emma
I was the Discovery star today and I was looking after Megan and we went to an activity and then we packed up the activity and then it was tidy up time. We went on the mat.

Henry
Today at Discovery Time I was responsible by staying at weaving my person. Then I wrote my name on the back. After I put two holes in it. then I put the pieces of paper through. Now you know how to weave a person.

Aileen
At Discovery Time I went in Room 7. First I made a pattern. Next I held some poles that we put a blue thing in. then I went in Room 1. I looked at the pictures and I decided to make a kitty. First I got the background for my picture. Next I got a pink piece of paper. I cut out a circle. Then a brown piece of paper. I cut out some eyes. I had a blue body. I had a pink bow, some brown legs, a black tail, some black eyes and a purple smile. then I tidied up the classroom. It was fun!

Oliver
Today I played with Jack and we played the monkey game. We played it in the shared space. Then we went to Room seven. Then Jack went to Mrs Perry and I sat on the carpet.

Evie
Today at Discovery Time I made a picture of a girl in Room 1 and it was beautiful and I was happy. Next I did some printing in Room 8. Then I went to Room 2 when it was tidy time. Finally I went to Room 7 for the last bit. At Discovery Time I enjoyed everything.

Discovery Time

Benjamin was the lucky person today at the start of Discovery Time who guessed that there were poles in the big brown box! He then opened it and helped pull out all the pieces. We have purchased a new water trough for our learning. We then had to work together to make up the frame for the blue trough to sit in. Once we had done that we had some capacity tools to use it in but we had to figure out how to block the hole at the end because it didn't come with all the pieces. There is supposed to be a tap on the end but it was no where to be found! We still managed to use it today but the water was leaking out the end where the plastic bag was acting as a bung. Hopefully all the pieces will be here next week so we can have a really good time learning in our new water trough!
We also had Emma who was the Discovery Time star today. She was responsible looking after a new student to our school, helped to tidy up without being asked and stuck at her activity until it was completed. She showed that she is a responsible learner in our class. Well done Emma!

Explain Everything

Today at Numeracy time some of us learnt how to use the app 'Explain Everything' on the ipad.  We used it to show our learning about how to add two numbers together using a number line.  We also learnt how to put it into Miss Browne's drop box from this app so that she can see them on her laptop.  We are getting very clever at using our ipad!

Pyjama Day

Today it is pyjama day at school because we are trying to get an outdoor chess set for our school.  On a mufti day we pay a gold coin to wear something that is not our school uniform.  We look cool in our pyjamas. It is also pizza day today.

Day Two: Water Safety

Day two of our water safety lessons were held in the big sport pool at Jellie Park.  We were all very brave as we jumped into the water, hopped into the boat and then fell out of it backwards, made a group huddle to keep warm, made a snake to travel down the length of the pool and jumped in again - some of us from the top of the starting blocks, and kicking all the way back down to the other end of the pool on our backs!
It was very cold and a little bit scary at times but we were proud of each other and ourselves for all giving it a try.
Our life jackets kept us safe and popped us back up to the top of the water when we jumped in.  It was a lot of fun too!

Day One: Water Safety

On Thursday we were in the big pool learning that

  • we can float on lots of things we might be using in the water like balls and buckets.
  • we need to check the depth of the water we are going in.
  • if the water is too deep we can hold on and use our monkey crawl to move along the side of a pool.
  • we can jump into water that is deep.
  • if the water is too deep we can tread water and swim back to safety.
  • we can use our muscles to pull ourselves out of the water.
These things were all very tricky wearing our clothes because our clothes hold onto the water and make us heavier.

Swimming Goals and the iPad!

Last week we received our brand new, sparkly iPad with thanks to the PTA for their fundraising efforts at our school fair last year. We were very excited and have been using this to record our swimming goals using Audioboo. Here are some of the goals:
